This temple has some historical stories in connection with a famous Samurai, Ashikaga and is one of the five great Rinzai temples of Kamakura which were ranked in Kamakura era.

We could enjoy a walk in their large garden and feel the air of the Zen temple.  A magnificent gate, Kanro no I (old well that is one of the Kamakura ten wells) are worth seeing, too.

Access to Jojuin from here is simple.  Enter the right street at the fork on the route 134. Then keep going straight, you will find this temple soon on the left side.

Many graves appears on the side of the stairways before reaching the gate.  Then, a quiet temple is there.

Going toward Gokuraku ji you will see this temple soon.  Walking up to the top of the stairways, you will see the beautiful and lovely temple.  Don't miss turning around.

The ocean view from there is a great panorama.

This is the famous temple, too.  You should climb up the long stairways from the street.  But once you finish climbing, you would find the buautiful temple in front and see the nice view backward.

We can go to Genjiyama Park from many points such as The Great Buddha, Kitakamakura, Kewaizaka etc.  No matter which entrance I take, I often exit to Jufukuji.

Jufuku-ji is one of the most prestigious temples in Kamakura, but the inside of the 2nd gate is basically not open to the public with some occasional exceptions.

Even so, a walk of the approach from the 1st gate to the 2nd and the quiet way of the circumference is recommended.

This is a gallery of Kamakura-bori, a Kamakura traditional artwork.  It's near Wadazuka Sta, and we can reach there less than 15-minute walk from here.

Professional craftsmen's works are displayed and sold there.  It would be good to watch the genuine artworks.

The nearest station to this gallery is Wadazuka, next to Yuigahama Sta.  Kamakura-bori is a traditional Japanese crafts-work of the carved plates and containers etc.

All works displayed here are made by the professional craftsman.  Some tools and row material are displayed for sale, too.

This is a Wadazuka Craft Gallery operated by Kamakurabori-co-op, which opened several museums and galleries in Kamakura city.

You can see the professional craftsman's works and buy them if you want.  They give a brochure written in English at the gallery.  It is right in front of Wadazuka graves.

It's a famous temple in Zaimokuza. Their lotus flowers and rock-garden are popular among the Kamakura fans. When you visit that temple, we recommend you to enter the main hall to see them.

Komyoji's temple gate is the existing biggest Temple Gate that is open to the public for several days in every spring.  Also a viewing platform in the backyard is recommended.  View of Yuigahama sea shore from that place is nice.

The gate of the temple is the biggest in Kamakura.  Lotus pond is worth seeing especially when the flowers bloom in summer and there is a stone garden.

We recommend Komyoji temple.  Walking toward Zaimokuza area, you will find it.  It's entrance gate is the biggest Sanmon (山門, temple's gate) in Kamakura.

It was not built as a temple. Originally, it was a house of a Kamakura Samurai named 光則 (Mitsunori).  He confined a Buddhist priest in a dungeon on his premise by the Regent Hojo's order.

Somehow he had that priest open a temple at his house, then it was named from the letter of his name. That dungeon is now open to the public.

I would like to say you had better visit Kosokuji Temple near Hasedera Temple.  You could feel it's peaceful atmospher that is worth visiting.

There is a prison with mud walls in which a monk was confined in the Kamakura era.  Anyway, it's a good temple with the beautiful garden.

This is a beautiful and quiet temple.  If you go to Hasedera Temple, you had better visit to Kosokkuji, too.  They are very near.

Its garden is known by Kamakura fans for the many kinds of flowers and trees.

Hase, a little west area, is protected by Amanawa Shinmei Miya and here Yuigahama is by Kuzuharaoka Jinja.

A portable shrine is brough to near Rokujizo and carried about back to the shrine on the their yearly festival. We understand that Deity of the shrine comes down for us on that day.

As for the temple, I like temples in Kitakamakura. Especially, it's recommended to go to Meigetsuin and Engakuji.
Meigetsuin is well known for its Ajisai (紫陽花, hydrangea) as it's also called Ajisai-dera.  So many people visit the temple to see the Meigetuin-blue fowers in June as they make a long waiting line.  In the seasons of Japanese iris and Koyo autumn leaves as well.
However, I like walking in the wonderful garden out of those crowded sasons.  It's nice to have a tea break at the temple's cafe on the left side soon after passing the entrance gate in the relatively quiet times.
